Outside, having fun, safely (and together!)
Maybe it’s a sunset bike ride up to Cheers, or headphones and the downhill skate on Bay Street, or maybe you just like a quiet walk in Stephen Decatur park. Or… Imagine this… you want to ride a dirt bike on some trails in Heron Park and finish with ping pong at some outdoor tables?
Being outside of our houses, enjoying nature, exercising and playing sports, talking to friends and meeting new ones are all things we love to do. We also love to connect with those who cross any number of those things off the checklist with us. And I want to see more options. I know that with some creative use of existing spaces within the town’s limits and a little bit of elbow grease — that we can increase our outdoor activity choices which ultimately lead to more connections within the town. And with more connections between neighbors Berlin becomes a stronger network of awesome humans.
A few things I would love to see here in Berlin:
An extreme sports park - Skate Park/Bowl/Half-pipe - a destination that skaters, and their families will want to travel to.
More bike, and walking trails - partner with ESIMBA, and other conservation groups to figure out the best places to create these to ensure our partnership with nature is kept.
(This was funded and built by We <3 Berlin by donations from the community, and Oktoberfest 2021 in Berlin.) Outdoor permanent ping pong tables - this is a no-brainer, and everyone I speak to agrees so far! If you have not seen the movie “The Tables” please watch!

(This was built by East Coast Disc Golf in 2022) A disc-golf course - We have a lot of open space in two of our parks, and more space available.

I am also smart enough to know that I have not thought of everything we could add to this list so I would love to hear from you. Please contact me with any other ideas you have for “Parks and Recreation” activities. Think creatively, think outside of the box. Berlin is already amazing, we already love it here… but how can we enrich it?
